“You can count on me like one two three, i’ll be there, and I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two, you’ll be there.” Bruno Mars
For me, family is so much more than just the textbook definition. It doesn’t matter if we share the same blood or the same last name. To me, that doesn’t mean anything. Family is someone who is always there for you, no matter what. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s the late night conversations when you can’t sleep because you’ve got a lot on your mind. It’s driving over 3hrs just to spend the day with someone and bake cookies. Through the laughs, the smiles, and the tears, they are always there for you. They don’t care about where you came from or who you are. All that matters is that you are family. From countless sleepovers, to countless phone calls, no matter how annoying you may or may not get, they don’t care. They are still going to be there for you, through the thick and thin, through the good times and the bad times.
They say you can’t choose your family, but I say you can. Blood doesn’t make you family, it just makes you related. Loyalty makes you family. Growing up I didn’t have much family. I come from a small “family”. I always wanted a big family like other people I knew had. As the years went by people can and went. For years it was just me, my mom, my dad, and occasionally my sister. Eventually I found people that cared for me and loved me as if I was always part of their family. So in the end, family can be found anywhere and can be anyone. “The only rock I know that stays steady, the only institution I know that works, is the family.” ~Lee Iacocca
